The fairness of the bike

To a bike, it doesn't matter.

To a bike, it doesn't matter if you are fit, thin, pretty, out of shape, not the prom queen, not the hottest guy on the beach, a superstar or a person who just smiles when they get outside for a quiet 10 minute spin.

A bike doesn't care who you are.  It doesn't care if you ride in pro races, the neighboorhood crits, or a quick jaunt to the store for bread and milk.

All the bike cares about, is that you take it outside and ride it.

The road doesn't care what your bike is. The road simply wants you, and your bike, to visit.

And i love the fairness of that.

Put 100 people in a room. They will come from all walks of life, sizes, colors, skills, and jobs.   They may not even speak the same language.  But they will have a bike in common, and suddenly all those barriers disappear.  Bikes bring people together.

And i love the complexity of that.

Your journey is your own, and your bike, is the best part. Even on the worse day of the best job, your bike will be there, quietly waiting until you have time for it.

Your bike memorizes the routes you like. On those windy days, or the rainy ones, or the days that are absolutely perfect, but your muscles are so tired every turn of the pedals hurt, you're bike will know the way home.

The best part, is that your bike doesn't get jealous. You can ride alone. You can ride with someone special, or you can ride in a group. You can ride 5 miles, or 50 miles. But it especially loves the longest rides.

To a bike, it doesn't matter. All it cares, is that you take it outside, and ride it.

Don't forget your trusty friend, oil the chain, air the tires, and go start a new adventure together.

Clear skies!
