Maybe we are looking at this the wrong way...

I used to be a rider in Wichita Falls, growing up there, going to high school and college.  In college, i took up real cycling, due to some pals who were extremely serious about it.  I wasn't serious enough for the shoes and clips, or clippless pedals, but i was serious enough to buy a pair of shorts, a helmet, and i rode around town for school and errands. Oh and, the occasional rally.

Fast forward about 20+ years,  and i moved to dallas to work, and chose an area civil to cyclists.  But all i hear is how Dallas, and many other cities in the USA, hate cyclists.

On my way to work this morning, i saw someone texting while driving. Another was looking down at his cup of coffee, trying not to spill it on himself.  A lady was putting on mascara (yeah, really?) And there is the rider, who slows down traffic with his demands on being equal on the road.  I get this, I'm a rider, who occasionally rides a bike, other than to race around the lake like I'm a deluded female version of Lance Armstrong.

Then it suddenly came to me.  We are the end users of cars and electronics and bikes.  We are the USERS.  And yet, we are falling over each other to make all these things work together with a result is a lot of finger pointing and much discord.

What we should be glaring at, is the automobile industry. I dont know about you, but when i was born in the 60s, i was promised jetson tubes, beaming or energizing, hover cars, anti gravity boots, etc.  What do i have? Gas combustion cars, bloated highways, and a fight to relieve the pressure by going BACKWARDS in time to use bicycles as transportation.

WTF people?  Where are my jetpacks?

So here is what i propose. Instead of taking an antiquated system of travel and forcing it to support a system is was NEVER designed to, lets get the automobile and travel industry to step it up.

We shouldn't be fighting over the roads: bicycles, motorcycles, joggers, scooters, vs cars. We should all combine our forces into going after the city's road commissions and the automobile and movement industry.  Stop wasting OUR time with these old fashoned cars. We need SMART CARS. Cars that once you leave your driveway, YOU aren't in control. The car is.

Hell, cars shouldnt even BE on the roads. They should be hovering over us with magnets and thrusters and automatic pilot systems. Cars that allow you to read your email, take a wash cloth bath, allow you to choose fat or skinny jeans, read your tablet, bec no one reads a paper anymore, put on make up (male or female)! With this system you could TEXT way to your hearts content, watch that tv show you missed due to having a life, and work. Yeah ok, no one would work in the 30 mins of peace you have getting to work, but you could still be distracted wtih all that other stuff that engineers and corporations have been tempting us for years now.

Ok so we got a train system? What train system. No offense, DART, but it would take me 2.5 hours to go 8 miles on your system, IN DALLAS PROPER.  That's not a solution. That's a waste of my tax money.

Why don't have an energizing platform in my house, next to my garage or washing machine?  Why don't I have a jetson tube network at my disposal?

What are you scientist and engineer's doing? Trying to cure the common cold??

I conclude, stop harassing drivers for hating us cyclists, let's hate the government for not providing us with advanced cities of hover crafts and scoot tubes!  The air is WIDE open, WHY ARENT WE USING IT??

clear skies!
